Principal's Update
Dear Vanier Families,
It was great to hear about the successful grade 8 outdoor education overnight camp and hike field trip. With the weather so temperamental this time of year, it is great to see that the students enjoyed themselves and that the trip didn’t have to be rescheduled.
Parents might have noticed that on Monday work began on our building envelope. Please take care when dropping students off and picking students up in the morning as space may be a bit more limited.
Next week, PATs continue for grades 6 and grade 9. Just a reminder, that there are no early dismissals scheduled and grade 9 students are expected to be at school when they finish their PATs. This is not just a Vanier expectation but an expectation of the CBE for grade 9 students across the board. More information on the dates of the PATs can be found below.
I am also pleased to inform you that our school has been allocated 3 additional teaching positions for the 2026–27 school year through the Government of Alberta’s Class Size Reduction Grant.
This grant funds teaching positions that support improved learning conditions in kindergarten to Grade 9 classrooms.
This funding is specifically intended to help reduce class sizes in core subject areas (English Language Arts/French Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies), with priority given to schools experiencing the greatest class size pressures.
This decision was made using system-wide data that considers:
- The number of classes exceeding provincial class size benchmarks
- Projected enrolment and class organization
- School programming and grade configuration
With the CBE goal to ensure students benefit from:
- Increased teacher attention
- Improved classroom learning environments
- Greater support for diverse learning needs
We remain committed to supporting strong learning environments for all students and using our resources thoughtfully and strategically.
I will update parents before the end of the school year with regards to all the staffing changes that occur at Vanier.
Finally, please read the messages below for some volunteer and summer camp opportunities around Calgary.
Bon weekend,

Vanier Fundraising Opportunity
We want to support our students and staff by raising money through CocoBrooks sales! We receive a portion of the money for every menu item - there are so many options to choose, not just pizza. This money will go to the GPV Parent Council and helps fund clubs, teacher and staff appreciation, supplies, and making learning FUN.

Camp Bonaventure volunteer opportunity
Between Friends is a Calgary-based non-profit organization that provides inclusive recreational and social programs for people with different abilities. Every summer, they host Camp Bonaventure, an outdoor summer day camp for youth ages 4–17 (June 29 - August 21, 2026) that brings together individuals of all abilities in a supportive and welcoming environment.
They are currently recruiting volunteers (ages 12+) to support us this summer at Camp Bonaventure.

Vanier Community Corner
Calling All Crochet Supporters!
Our crochet club is already thinking ahead to next year! During our lunch hours, we're busy spinning, organizing, and carefully storing our wool so it's ready for another year of creativity and learning.
To help keep everything tidy and protected, we're looking for large plastic storage bins. If you happen to have an extra bin collecting dust in your garage, basement, or storage room, we would be grateful to give it a new home.
Donations can be dropped off at the school office.
Thank you for supporting our young crocheters and helping us keep the yarn adventures going! 🧵❤️
